Top performers aren't concerned about tasks. Top performers are more concerned about having a mission and purpose. Any individual can complete tasks and they have a dozen choices within the same city. Share your purpose and they will respond by completing the tasks and move your organization closer to its mission.
Once we have those top performers and they are on a mission, it is our goal to keep them around. Employee turnover is expensive in more ways then just dollars. If we can't keep our top talent around, then we might as well just go to our competition and train their staff to put us out of business.
Engagement is the day-to-day relationship building. If the relationship isn't growing then we are cheating our employees, our business, and failing our mission. We need to assume full responsibility for growing that relationship.
